Question for any application developers that might happen to stumble upon this blog:

When working on a project in a formal environment (corporate, education, whatever), do you prefer working in a laid back environment, or a conservative (you better not be doing anything not work related) environment?

Do you feel this is beneficial to you getting your work done or not?

From [info]cypherpunk If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don’t speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want — good or bad. When you’re finished post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you

You scored as Libertarian

Libertarians believe that you have the right to live your life as you wish, without the government interfering, as long as you don’t violate the rights of others. This translates into strong protections for privacy and property rights, and a weak to non-existent social safety net.

So I am done. I passed all my classes and am now the proud owner of a shiny new Masters of Computer Science from the University of Iowa. So now instead of getting to move out of Iowa in pursuit of some really cool job doing some sort of Computer Graphics, I got a job with a firm in Marion where I will be converting their old Delphi style web app to asp.net and c#. Fortunately, one of the proffs at UI is going to let me be his "programming grunt" (my term, not his), so that I may maintain my legitimacy as someone who can write OpenGL. So, to all my friends in IC, come up and see us sometime.

Don,

Congradulations on your retirement from one of the best sindicated radio progrums ever known to man. I got it (I think), and I loved it. You and Mike have made my afternoons (and the occasional morning) blissful for the past 10 years. I completely understand your reasons for stepping down, and I commend you for doing what you need to do. Life is short, and if you spend your life in a place where you are no longer comfortable with yourself, its a life wasted. I hope you can heal and come back to the carrer you loved. If you do, I will find your broadcasts and listen. If not, I will fondly look back on the times you made me laugh.

Don't listen to those who are mad that you are leaving the radio industry. Its not healthy to dwell upon negativity. Freeda wouldn't have wanted you to anyway.

Anyway, I know you will probably never read this. But you know what they say, when its on the internet, its out there forever.

Yours Truly,

A Fan

If you like beer, and not "I like budweiser because its cheap and gets me drunk fast", you owe it to yourself to try at least one new beer a week. This week its New Belgium Brewing Co's 1554. Its a nice dark ale that isn't super thick like Guinness. It has a nice smooth mouth feel, and has a bit of a chocolate finish.
12th-Mar-2008 10:32 am - New Clone & Jobs in Iowa
me and michael
I am now the proud father of a 2nd little boy. Christopher Seth Abrahamson was the first baby born at the University of Iowa Hospital on leap day 2008. Pictures are posted below under the cut after my whining about looking for a job.

So as I am finishing my degree, I am finding it difficult to find a job in Iowa that is not a pure "Web Developer" position for someone that only has a few years of experience under their belt. Here is a little background. Since October of 06, I have been working on Santos here at Virtual Soldier Research. It is a very awesome job that I wish I could continue working at after I graduate. However, they are not currently hiring staff positions, which sucks. Furthermore, in coordination with Rockwell Collins, I have been developing a 3D electronic circuit board database app which knock on wood, I wrote my last line of code for on Monday. Which I wouldn't mind going on to Rockwell to work with the people I have been collaborating with for this project, so we will see if that is a possibility.

So I have been looking at the current job resources here in the Iowa Cedar Valley (I think that is where I am) and the majority of tech sector jobs looks like Insurance Company A, Insurance Company B, Insurance Company C, etc... With a background in CG and HCI, working for an Insurance company does not appeal to me in the slightest. So it is beginning to look like I will have to relocate the fam, or suck it up for a couple of years, and hope that Iowa legislation lets Microsoft come through and try to get in with them.

Anyway, that is enough whining for me today.

I have had a wii for quite some time now, but I need to populate my address book. My wii number is

3177-0860-0600-9772

Hopefully I will get some more online oriented games (probably going to get Super Smash Brothers) and anyone/everyone can have fun kicking my ass around.

Anyway, off to the dump (damn construction waste)
